Surrey Cricket Club : Kennington Oval

The KIA Oval / Kennington Oval located just south of the River Thames, has been home to Surrey County Cricket Club since 1845.

Vanguard Contracts were appointed by the Chief Executive and Board to design and build a new all-purpose fitness suite within the Ken Barrington Indoor Cricket Centre and Gym. The fitness suite would be located on a new Mezzanine floor which would meet the required standards of facilities as set out by the International Cricket Council (ICC)

Because of the nature of the building and the proposed location of the Mezzanine Floor, the floor was installed from ground floor level down to a restricted basement level, incorporating an old viewing gallery and gym overlooking the current sports hall.

The mezzanine columns were carefully sited to allow continued use of the indoor cricket nets and batting facility below

Structural Glass and Stainless Steel Balustrades complete with glass infill panels were utilized to create a modern and contemporary look to the new area, whilst adopting an open plan feel on both levels.

As part of the turnkey fit-out, Vanguard Contracts carried out demolition works, the installation of a new Mezzanine Floor, Fire Protection, Staircases, Structural Glass Balustrades, Ceilings, Fire Detection, Electrical Services, Audio Visual Systems, Flooring and Decorations.

The Project was carried out and completed within the designated 4 week timeframe, within budget, to the complete satisfaction of the Client and all in time for England’s Surrey Squad members to use on their return from their tour to South Africa.
